Assistant Chief Engineer/Mid-Atlantic

CBS Radio is currently looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer. This is a hands-on position with emphasis on proven engineering skills. Position requires being on call 24/7 and responding quickly at all times.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
 Maintain integrity of on-air product.
 Maintain, troubleshoot & repair an entire broadcast technical plant, equipment and systems, including remote control and monitoring of multi-site facilities
 Install technical equipment & systems at studio, transmitter, STL, in company vehicles and remotes sites in keeping with good engineering practices.
 Document, using a computerized database, word processor & drawing program, plus manual drafting; equipment & wiring of systems & equipment.
 Assist in planning & development of all aspects of AM & FM radio technical facilities, including telephone, satellite, STL, monitoring systems, vehicles, computers and networks.
 Support station & field operations, as necessary, especially during major studio & field efforts involving complex technical operations.
 Create instructional materials and teach technical and non-technical personnel the proper use of technical equipment.
 Generator testing, fueling and supervision of maintenance. UPS testing and supervision of maintenance.
 Perform facility & vehicle industrial health & safety inspections under direction of the Chief Engineer/Industrial Health & Safety Officer.
 Some supervisorial duties and backup for Chief Engineer will be required.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) years’ experience in broadcast facilities with minimum 2 year Associates degree in electronics or 7 years’ hands-on maintenance experience with high power AM and/or FM analog and HD transmission systems, STL & studio audio at a professional radio or television facility.
- Must have results driven approach to organize, plan, manage, document and execute assignments with minimum supervision in demanding situations.
- Must be Customer service orientated with ability to effectively communicate.
- RF experience with analog and digital AM and FM transmitting equipment and STL systems is a requirement.
- Knowledge of digital audio & logic techniques & systems is highly desirable.
- Specific knowledge of Nautel transmitters, SAS digital audio routers and Broadcast Electronics AudioVault a plus.
- Experience with remote broadcast operations including field equipment, ISDN and IP CODECS, and 3G/4G delivery platforms.
- Working knowledge of personal computers is a must.
- Comprehensive knowledge of basic electronic theory for troubleshooting to the system, board and component level.
- SBE Certification preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license for operation of company vehicles is required. Reliable personal vehicle is required for 24hr. response for emergencies.
